The Jail

The Polk County jail is a tobacco free facility capable of housing 39 inmates, and meets requirements set forth by the ADA concerning handicap persons.

Privileges

Inmates in the five cell-block areas have the privilege of television and a telephone. The telephones are a service provided by an independent company and all calls made are collect. No calls can be received by an inmate, and they do not receive messages.

Inmate Property Allowed

  1. Religious book, soft cover only
  2. (Women) 3 pair white underwear, 3 pair white socks, 3 white bras-no underwire
  3. (Men) 3 pair white underwear, 3 pair white socks
  4. 2 pair white insulated underwear will be allowed during winter months
  5. Reading glasses, Dentures and Hearing Aids (w/batteries)
  6. Prescription drugs - in proper container with inmate's name and prescribed by a licensed physician within 1 year of date of issue.  Prescriptions are subject to confirmation through the physician before allowing inmate to take the medication.  Refills must be provided in bubble packs.  The pharmacy can do this for you.  Refills are the inmate's financial responsibility.  Non prescription medications are not allowed.

Clothing does not have to be new.  All clothing must have the inmate's name on it written in permanent marker.

Any other approved items can be purchased from commissary.   Commissary monies must be cash or money order.  No coins will be accepted.

Inmates at the Polk County Jail are allowed some personal property. A list of allowed property may be obtained from the jail staff. These are the only items allowed into the jail from the outside, unless specifically approved by the jail administrator

Posting Bond

An inmate can post bond at any time, providing a bond has been set by the judge. A list of court approved bonding companies are available at the jail. A bondsman’s fees are set by his/her self and is not connected with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in any way.

Attorneys, Clergy, Religious opportunities

Attorneys representing an inmate have access to visit the inmate privately during all reasonable hours. Prison Fellowship visits the facility on a weekly basis, inmates are allowed to participate in prison fellowship or to refuse. Clergy can visit an inmate once they have called and made arrangements with jail staff to do so. All attorneys and clergy will be asked for identification and will be required to sign in and out of the facility.
